Humble Beginnings in 1913+

The Port of Bremerton is the 4th oldest port in the State of Washington and the first of many in Kitsap County.

As the story has been passed down through generations, it is said that the city of Bremerton had inadvertently built portions of its wharf, an important commercial and transportation hub, over privately-owned tidelands. The property owner's threatened lawsuit prompted a signature-gathering campaign by citizens to put the formation of a port district within the city of Bremerton's boundaries on the ballot in the hopes of resolving the dispute.

Celebrating 100 years of achievement in 2013+

The next 100 years the Port pledges to continue to leverage every tax dollar the Port receives through wise investment in job-generating facilities, infrastructure, and programs, and continue its collaboration with public and private partners in the interest of long-term economic and recreational benefits shared throughout Kitsap County and the West Puget Sound region.

Business and Industrial Parks+

  • More than 60 companies, employing over 2,500 people, are located at the Port of Bremerton
  • Over 3,400 acres of Port and privately-owned land adjacent to Bremerton National Airport are being developed through a partnership called Puget Sound Industrial Center – Bremerton (PSIC - formerly known as SKIA).
  • By the year 2025, projections are that more than 9,000 additional jobs will be located there.

Bremerton National Airport (KPWT)+

  • Is the largest airport on the Kitsap Peninsula. The airport provides world-class general and corporate aviation services and capabilities.
  • On and off-site businesses contribute 269 jobs and more than $83 million annually in sales.
  • Nearly 200 aircraft are housed at the airport; they make over 60,000 takeoffs and landings each year.

Bremerton and Port Orchard Marinas +

  • Both marinas attract thousands of visiting boaters every year who spent their money locally.
  • For every dollar spent at the marina, $2.50 goes back into the local economy.
  • Both marinas also offer local residents long-term dockage for their boats.
  • Both marinas also host the Kitsap Harbor Festival and the Blackberry Festival, attracting many local residents and visitors to the downtown area of Bremerton and Port Orchard.

Board of Commissioners

Over the last 100 years, Port of Bremerton constituents have selected port commissioners with a strong commitment to making decisions in the vested interest of the people they represent. The port district is divided into three commission districts, each with an elected official that is elected to a six-year term.
